I promise this is my last post about the fourth volume’s OP but I forgot to mention how the lyrics are surprisingly optimistic. Each of the last three OPs was bleaker than the previous so it’s interesting to note the difference. It went from “Life will suck” to “Life sucks but we _will_ move on and continue living.”
Regarding Whitley's characterization -- I find it interesting that you always encountered negative portrayals of him, since the two (complete) works I've ever read featuring him both were positive. [One shipfic of *consults spreadsheet to avoid spoilers* Avocado Toast, which was mostly fluffy pining, and one angsty character piece on the relationship between him and his mother.] Maybe it depends on when the fics were written... or maybe its just rampant Alternate Character Interpretation.
I think the couple of fics I read where he appeared were written during Volume 4, maybe he turns out to be better than expected later on. 🤔
But it wouldn’t surprise me if the fanfic writers made him that way just because they needed even more ways to make Weiss’ life difficult.
So since you've seen Yang's outfit in the OP and mentioned Bumbleby, here's a funny example of CRWBY being trolls: In the concept art they showed at conventions prior to V4, the patch Yang has on her right leg (here her father's symbol) was a big ol' bee. They also labeled the outfit the DGAS (Doesn't Give A Shit) outfit.
Ha! That’s amazing. I wonder if Yang losing her arm trying to save Blake was actually planned from the beginning or if they did it just to spite Bumblebee fans.
I still think they are not going to meet until very late this season but it’s nice to see them together. I wonder what’s the meaning of their placement, for a second I thought they would spell RWBY but nope.
And that’s the OP. It only took a bit more than 2 hours to cover 1 minute and 25 seconds… *dies*
Until next time!
Maybe their placement means how close they are to self-actualization.
Ruby is the closest to the camera because she “woke up” after last season, Blake because maybe she’s realizing that she screwed up?, Weiss is third because she still isn’t her own person free of her father’s control and Yang is the furthest away because she’s deep into depression.
Of course it will all break down the second Blake opens her mouth and contradicts my theory. :v

…and Adam is going to appear. Huh. I thought Blake was going to have to deal with Hazel.
Weiss is going to… summon something. Feels a bit less exciting that the last two but her problems have always been internal.
JNR looking awesome. I like how they are showing them as a unit, without Ruby.
She’s a… I don’t want to say guest because she’s more than that, but she’s part of the team only because of the circumstances and I’m sure everyone would prefer to be with their own team, JNR with Pyrrha and Ruby with team RWBY. But that’s not possible so… team RNJR.
There are way too many villains this season, I wonder if Adam is actually going to make an appearance outside of Yang’s probable nightmares/flashbacks.
I have never been so happy to see a character suffer from PTSD. I mean, it sucks for Yang but I was dreading they would completely skip the consequences of what happened to her.
I _love_ this sequence. It starts with Blake probably being all angstyblake-y looking at the sea but she’s actually not alone, she has friends and a family supporting her! I knew she had parents and that her dad was huge (second and last thing that reading fanfiction spoiled to me) but I had no idea they looked so cute and loving. And Blake looks so happy. <3
But of course she still feels guilty about Yang.
I’m really curious about what is going to happen with these two, and I’m not even talking about bumblebee or shipping. Is her guilt actually going to be a part of Blake’s arc this season?
